20th Anniversary Film of Severance Hospital Main Building

국내 최초의 서양식 병원인 세브란스병원은 2025년 140주년을 맞이했습니다. 더불어 신촌 본관 건설 20주년을 맞이한 해이기도 합니다. 본관 20주년을 맞아 현 병원장의 목소리를 통해 세브란스병원의 140년의 역사를 되짚어 보고 본관의 건축 과정에 대한 에피소드, 그간의 성과, 그리고 앞으로의 비전을 제시하는 영상을 제작했습니다.

140년이라는 긴 시간 동안 세브란스병원을 기록해온 매체들도 다양하게 변화 해왔습니다. 특히 본관이 지어지던 2000년대 초반은 VHS로 모든 것들이 기록되던 때입니다. 인트로 및 영상 초반에서는 4:3 비율의 VHS 포맷의 느낌을 살렸습니다. 5분 남짓의 영상 한 편을 통해서 사진-필름-VHS-디지털로 변화되는 것으로 세브란스병원의 역사를 표현했습니다.

Severance Hospital, the first Western-style hospital in Korea, celebrates its 140th anniversary in 2025. This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the construction of its main building in Sinchon. To commemorate the occasion, we produced a video that retraces the 140-year history of Severance Hospital through the voice of the current hospital director. The video includes anecdotes about the architectural process of the main building, highlights of past achievements, and a vision for the future.

Over the span of 140 years, the media used to document Severance Hospital has evolved significantly. In particular, the early 2000s—when the main building was constructed—was an era when VHS tapes were commonly used for recording. To reflect this, the introduction and early part of the video feature visuals in the 4:3 VHS format. In just over five minutes, the video encapsulates the transition from photographs to film, VHS, and finally digital media, illustrating the rich and evolving history of Severance Hospital.
